Hello there... : )

So, you want to know a little more about me? Well, you’re in the right place!

My name is Gemma Taylor and I like drawing and making.
I first appeared on this earth in 1991 in the UK.

-2026, in outbuilding with a few of my paintings.

Growing up between East London and Clacton-On-Sea I have developed an eye for finding beauty in the ‘bad’. surrounded by deprivation and hardship focussing on bright, colourful cartoon imagery provides escapism. however, my work often still carries the heavy burden of past pain. this is something i have noticed over time; the juxtoposition between pleasant visuals mixed with unpleasant themes create something compelling and true to me.

-1993, drawing in the backroom of my mum’s florist in enfield.

I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2014 in Illustration so naturally my main focus is drawing, however, being a ‘making lemonade out of lemons’ type I will use whatever i can get my grubby little hands on to do so. Illustrating how i see and imagine manifests using ceramic, painting, sewing and has extended to the printing, curation and tattooing world over time.

-2014, holding my first graphic novel ‘5 finger discount’ at exhibition.

Since graduating from my education in illustration moving back to an area with little job prospects i found myself making money via tattooing since 2016 with my true artistic expression taking a backseat. ten years, 2 tattoo studios and many failed creative side projects later at the beginning of 2026 i found myself questioning whether my life aligns with my true self; what i found is that i have been making without resonating with myself on a creative or personal level for quite some time.

-2016, nervously tattooing my more experienced superiors after hours.

so, i am taking it back to basics again, i am making alot of experimental works at the moment focussing on colour and texture, i find freedom through indulging in what inspires me most and giving myself absolute free-reign to make.

i hope you enjoy watching me find my creative feet as much as i am finding them : )
